I have seen one that was white and orange. I don't think it quite as distinctive as the 53 Skylark though. Very rare car.

These rank in my top five favorite Oldsmobiles. What a classy looking automobile.

I am of the opinion that we will see more and more of the very high prices for the Olds convertibles of the 50s!!!
There were many of them around, many more than Cadillacs, but there are only a few left, while the Caddies 62 are not rare at all!
Believe me, the Olds convertibles of the 50s are an excellent investment, in mint condition!!

German, I hope you are correct. I know there are not a lot of 54 Super 88 convertibles around. I believe there are more Starfires around since it seems they come up for sale more often. I haven't checked the production numbers. I just got my current issue of Hemmings yesterday and it has the Barrett Jackson insert in it. They have a Fiesta in the auction with 36.800 miles on it that is a 2 owner car. It is Blue and White which I kind of like. Although we all know Barrett Jackson is not real world, it will be interesting to see what it brings.

I know in 55 there were about 9,000 super 88's convertibles made and if you figure about a 2% survival rate your looking at less than 200 still around. I don't have the figures for 53's or 54's but I would bet that there are fewer of those than 55's. This would make for a supply and demand situaction and probably why they get such a price from these cars......Tedd

Only 458 Fiesta examples produced, it makes one wonder how many are still around. I have seen two, Heritage collection car on several occasions and one at the '06 Nationals. Both were stunning...

Tedd:

I just checked the production numbers for 54 and 55. In 1954, Oldsmobile produced a total of 354,001 cars of which 6,452 were Super 88 convertibles and 6,800 were Starfire convertibles. In 55 they produced 583,177 cars of which 9,007 were Super 88 convertibles and 9,149 were Starfire convertibles. Looks like they kept a pretty even balance between the Super 88 and Starfire convertibles. I am guessing but I bet there is closer to 1% (if that many) of these cars surviving. Here is a link if anybody would like to look.

Thanks for the link, I found that very interesting that fewer than 10,000 convertible were made in any year or model. Tedd

I strongly believe that there are less than 20 Super 88 convertibles left made in 1956, which are in a mint condition.
I am watching the market now for nearly 3 years on the 56, and there is a convertible from time to time, however, the condition is not always nice to put it mildly.

They have no top which makes them rather unique Sorry I couldn't resist.

Just like any convertible it's all in the condition of the body and frame. Most of the hard parts (running gear) are the same as the rest of the line so those parts if damaged worn or missing wouldn't matter as much , things get expensive when top bows windshield frames and convertible only parts are missing or broke.I think you will find it's going to be pretty hard just to find a car in restoriable shape that won't cost a arm and a leg these days but you never know what lies in some hidden old barn somewhere, I have my dreams.

I you find something unique or unusual drop us a pic and I'm sure we will come up with some kind of answer......Tedd

I see that they will be auctioning the '53 Fiesta from the Heritage Collection, this color scheme has always been my favorite.

The 53 Fiesta is in a class all it's own. In 1953 GM introduce the Buick Skylark, the Cadillac El Dorado and the Oldsmobile Fiesta. They were very limited production cars and for the most part were probably hand built. If you find a 53 Fiesta in restored condition it is going to cost at least $125,000. I haven't checked the production but I think it was only a few hundred cars. I have only seen one.

Now I will edit this post since I clicked on the above link to Hemmings. The production numbers tell why we see so any more Buick Skylarks because they built about 4 times as many. These are gorgeous cars.
