Am I the only one who sees the irony in this photo?

Despite the word irony in the photo, it looks like the 442 numbers are placed in the correct position for the stripe, but no stripe is on the car. Unlike the usual problem of cars that have the numbers in the "non-stripe" location further front on the fender and add the stripe so that it runs into the wheel well at the bottom.

And here I was thinking the bumper needed a good tweaking and there's a board right there to do it with.
Or the fact that the emblems are high and the bumper is low, making the car look like it was wearing High Waters.

Seems like the only 68s I see without the stripe anymore have the emblems in the "stripe" position. The missing wheel opening trim is a tip-off that the car has been repainted.

Incorrect. The W36 finder stripe was an available option for $15.80 on any 68 442. Choosing this option automatically deleted (with option code Y74) the GT pinstripe (Option code Y70) that was standard on the 442. Ordering this option necessitated that the fender numbers be located slightly aft and below the factory number location for a non-W36 stripe car.

The irony is that alot of 68 442 have the stripe painted incorrectly because the numbers are in a different place with the strip. Every time a 68 442 is repainted they add the strip in the wrong place because they don't move the numbers to make the strip correct. The car in the picture has the numbers in the correct place but no strip.

Seeing the stripe added and numbers in the wrong location is like a pebble in your shoe for Joe. So, yeah, the numbers in the right location without a stripe is something that would catch Joe's attention!
