Lifting my 330

I need to get my engine off my engine stand and onto my run - up stand. I bought one of those lifting plates that you bolt on to where the carb bolts up. Will that do the trick? What grade of bolt should I use? I'd rather not find out if the 330 bounces...

I know a lot of guys use the carb plate but I could never trust it. Of course it makes sense that four 5/16 bolts would hold more than the two 3/8 bolts I screwed into the side of the heads many times and used.

I made a chain for lifting Olds motors. It has the two hooks from a tie down strap and it is the lift chain sold at most auto parts stores. These hooks fit into the factory lift strap at the front of the intake on the drivers side and I also use the hole in the block on just below the distributor and towards the passenger side. this lifts the engine nice and safely. Two good solid points.

Four gr5 bolts and lock washers will be sufficient.

Absolutely no problems using a lift plate with grade 8 5/16" bolts and washers lifting a 455 with all accessories and TH400 attached into and out of a pickup truck.

I too go the bolt route instead of the carb lifting plate route.

When I did mine, I just ran the bolts in the head where the brackets go, I used 4 bolts, one on each side of the head, worked great
