Distributor won't come out? 1970 350

I am having trouble removing the Distributor on my 1970 olds Cutlass 350 (66K) original miles i have the engine out tearing it down to repaint and freshen up the externals.

My question is this the Distributor will not come out?
  • Distributor hold down removed
  • Oil Pump and rod removed
  • Spins with cam just fine
  • it moves up and down in its boss about a 1/16 but will not come out?
I have more chevy's under my belt than i can shake a stick at and a couple olds (back in the 80;s) but for the life of me i cannot remember if there is trick to getting it out or if it just needs soem muscle,

Muscle.

Maybe some firm taps with the "Persuader."

She'll come out.

Try soaking it with your favorite penatrating fluid, Kryole, PB Blaster, etc. That may melt the sludge/corrosion that's hanging it up. John

Thanks everyone, I used the old pry bar under the Dist technique, it popped out after a disturbing amount of force and the rubber o ring was dry most likely a side effect of not being driven much. a lil white lith grease and it fits and removes like new now.
