What can I do to get a better launch?

No track racing, just stop light stuff. When I get on it my (new) tires break loose and spin causing me a "drag" race loss or two Posi, 3.42, stroker. Thanks!!

Brand suggestion? Same size as I currently have in my BFG? What makes it a race tire? just tread? why does less tread give better traction? Thanks!

M/T ET street tires or Hoosier Quick Time tires in the size you want. They are not good tires in any rain or wet pavement. They will make the car hook. They are basically street legal slicks of sort.

The no hop bars aren't really great on the street. If suspension is decently setup no hop bars are not needed. My 66 Street/Drag car will destroy a regular 275/60-15 street tire. Hooks really hard on MT Street SS radials. They work ok at track but not as good as my race slicks.

Set up your rear properly and you don't need anything else.
I run the 325 M/T ET Street R...and they will bite on any decent surface.

Will changing to a race tire affect the longevity of the drive train?

Traction = more stress on powertrain and suspension.

Could be harder on parts if it hooks hard

It's a different rubber compound, so it grips dry pavement a lot better. The drawback is they likely won't last anywhere near the mileage of a regular street tire.
