Main Girdle

I am putting together my 455 for my rail dragster. I have SRP pistons, eagle rods, end crank, C heads ported by J&S. Jim says they would flow better than out of the box Eldebrock (no Numbers). I have a solid roller cam ( Lunati), 668 intake lift and exhaust. 255 - 263 at 50. 109 LSA, Torquer intake.Looking for 550-575 horsepower. The car is 433 gears, 33 inch tall tires, 3000 stall converter, 1;8 mile car only. My question is I have J&S full girdle. I sent him my caps, he cut them down and the total that he cut measuring from top of bolt hole to bottom of bolt hole is 2 inches 300 and 80 thousands. Do you think that this would weaken my caps to the point where they would crack? Is it possible to make that kind of power with the combination stated above??

Your caps are not going to crack with the girdle mounted on top of them

I know the bolt together style girdle like J&S is probably not the strongest out there in the Oldsmobile community. If I can achieve my power level would his be strong enough for me? Thank you very much for your reply. Also do you think the cam I have is too big for my build?
Thanks,
John

I am on the 2nd set of heads from Jim, i have been very satisfied with his work. I wonder if you are giving up power using the torquer intake over a Vic jr? I would think a higher stall speed converter would be better with that cam. I’m curious to see how this performs.

You’ll make your number but a few suggestions.
First of all you should’ve gotten a flow sheet so you could better match the cam to the heads.
Secondly you should be fine with the setup after it’s align honed correctly.
Use a Victor not a Torker.
And lastly, if you really want to help it live, make sure you balance it internally. To be honest a set of aluminum rods would’ve been the better way to go.

I would like to thank everyone that replied to my post. I have another question. This motor I had in a 86 Cutlass- 9 to 1 compression and stock C heads. Com cams extreme energy 274 cam. Car ran 7/40"s in the 1/8 th. Shifting at 5000 RPM. with new motor and parts stated above hoping car will run bottom on the 6's shifting at 5800.Of course trans is power glide.what i like about these motors is they make real good power at low RPM. Do you think this will still apply for my new setup?

You just went up almost 20* on cam duration. That’ll raise the peak no matter what, at the expense of low end power.
