No real worries on brand, R12 is a standardized formula. I'd be a lot more concerned with country of origin and would probably steer clear of some of the offshore mess.

Any idea on shipping costs? 20 bux a can is a good deal if you don't get into hazmat shipping. I remember buying the stuff for 69 cents for a 12 oz can.

I still believe the only reason 12 went away was because of DuPont's influence peddling. When the patents are expiring and the royalty money is disappearing, "hey let's get the govamink to force them to use our new less efficient product!".

Shouldn't be any hazmat problems - it doesn't explode, doesn't burn, and isn't poisonous.

Unfortunately, I believe there is a whole lot of truth in this statement.

OMG the conspiracies are endless!!! How will we all survive with BIG BROTHER and Corporate Giants out to get us! 66NinetyEightLS runs screaming from the room!

Any ideas then as to what back door dealings caused the conspirators to stop the use of R-134a in cars in the near future?

R12 didn't go away. Us and canada are i believe the only two major countries to ban it. it is still being manufactured all over the rest of the world by Dupont.

I use Envirosafe now, its said to be 20* colder than r12 or 134 and can be bought for $7/can at your local swap meets. I swear I saw snow blowing out of the vents of my 69 442 last summer when I used it. I need to change the compressor in my wagon which has Vintage Air and give it a charge using it. I'll let you know the results of how it works in an aftermarket system vs factory.

Yup I know that. I doubt it will ever explode in a sealed system and even if it were in a crash, those 3 little cans of propane wont be much of a boom.

No, but they could make the difference between a fender bender and a car fire that destroys the whole car, with insurance unwilling to pay up because you used an incendiary agent in your A/C system.

How many car fires have you seen in person? How many have you started? (the joys of working in a junkyard as a kid... ).

I to Eric had the same joy. Spent summers at my uncles in no where Pa and he owned a junk yard. We did the propane bombs in the cars. Once they blew up they never ignited the car. He said the explosion always used enough of the oxygen to prevent it from igniting anything else. When we went to the bags full of oxygen and acetylene thats when they burned occasionally. We once blew the cab clean off an old Ford pick up and it peeled the roof right off. The glass shot about 150 feet from where the truck was parked. LOL Lets just say my uncle aint right!

Yeah, I burned a couple cutting engine and suspension parts out of them before I got the hang of it.

What's on the other side of that firewall / floor? Oh, yeah, right: Flammable asphalt sound deadening, jute, and carpet.

What's that smell, anyway...?

Ooops.

Anyone got a bucket?!?

Never mind.

LOL I had a guy at work weld an upper rail/tower in a new Honda and never pulled the insulation off the firewall. That thing went up like a match! What a mess, luckily I wasnt the one to have to fix it after that! We made sure he was around long enough to finish the job and then they canned him. Never could figure out why he didnt pull the dash before he started welding, it had to come out anyway because of the air bags going off.

I am truly shocked at this thread. Not one person posting about the legality of selling r-12 to someone without regulatory oversight ... what's the online world coming to. Did you shoot all the trolls while I wasn't looking?
