NOS Oldsmobile Deck Lid Power Lock Release package. This is a dealer installed accessory, part # 982862. It is listed for the 1967 "88" model cars. It should also work on the 1964-1969 Cutlass/442 cars. Please use your own judgment. The hard to find "lock coupling" looks exactly like the 1966-1967 "A" body coupler. Some cars used a black plastic vacuum reservoir. This package has the older style metal reservoir. I will include a used black plastic vacuum reservoir. Will it work for a 1969 convertible?

It should work on a '69 convertible. I installed one on my '69 4-4-2 convertible and it works fine. The only difficulty is where to install the additional vacuum reservoir. I believe this reservoir was the "can" type for '68 and the plastic type for '69 and it is supposed to go on the firewall underneath the power brake set-up. The only trouble is getting to that position if your brake set-up is already installed and you don't want to remove it. I didn't want to remove mine so I installed the vacuum reservoir forward of the inner fender on the driver side, near the battery, using existing bolts to hold it in. Once I got everything installed, the remote trunk opener has worked every time I pushed the button, just as long as there is enough vacuum in reserve to operate the system. If the car sits for awhile, the vacuum will dissipate and the system won't work until you start the car.

This got my wheels turning. Wouldn't it actually be "the vacuum will be compromised.." by incoming gas (air)?

It takes awhile for the vacuum to dissipate/escape - it doesn't go away overnight. I got my system from a car in the junkyard. I don't know how long the car had been there and I didn't even know these cars had remote trunk openers until I opened the glove box and saw the button. I pushed the button and there was enough vacuum in the system to pop the trunk. When I saw what the system was, I extracted it while the trunk was open. If I had closed the trunk and tried to pop it open again with the remote button, there would not have been enough (or any) vacuum in the system to re-open the trunk.

With my '69, the car sits for months during the late fall/winter/early spring before I bring it out again. The trunk will open once if the car has been sitting for a short while but, when I bring the car out in the early spring, enough vacuum in the trunk opener system has escaped such that it won't open the trunk until I've started the car and restored the vacuum from the intake manifold on the engine.
