Bringing AC back to life

I have a 72 Cutlass....it's an AC car but hasn't worked in the 3 years I've owned her. The wiring harness on the compressor is missing 2 of 3 wires. I know I need to replace that. And more.

I have the shop manuals, assembly manual, and the Fisher body manual. Searched through them and couldn't find a good diagram of the AC system at large. Aside from needing to replace the harness, I don't have any relays. Not sure what's required on that front. Hoping someone can direct me to a good source of info or provide it here.

Also and as an FYI in the event it's relevant, the heater works great.

Thanks guys.

The AC system is clearly explained in the Chassis Service Manual; get one of these and you'll have the hose diagram, wiring diagram, and relay location.

If #s matching not a thing for you, and assuming your a/c may need a significant overhaul anyway, might want to contemplate a Vintage Air system install - bonus is it eliminates the under-hood evaporator core assembly from the mix, which opens the entire right side of the engine bay up for motor access . More efficient/smaller compressor and all electronic heating and air (no mechanical cables, vacuum requirements for actuators or main switch, etc) - did that to my car about 4-5 years ago and haven't looked back.
