404847 water pump?

Picked up a new AC water pump to take to the assembly shop, and figured while I had the old one out verifying they're the same I'd pull the numbers and see what I have.

So.. anything special about it?

Yes - it's considered somewhat "special". It's the correct casting number for a 1970 car w/HD cooling so folks look for these. They're not super rare as there were a lot of Oldsmobiles that got this pump and people have grabbed them off salvage cars, etc. Still, they are desirable and sought after. Take a pic of the "guts" of it....the impeller inside the cavity on the other side. It should have a cast iron/closed face impeller.....that's sort of key for someone looking for a good core the have rebuilt. If it was rebuilt in the past the original impeller could have been swapped out for the typical "open" impeller that the volume rebuilders use.

It has the blade type impeller. I'm guessing it was a JY rebuild, being is a 69 car/engine.

I'll try to remember to take a picture in the morning.

is this thing worth anything or do I toss it in the pile with the original torque converter and springs?

Someone may still want to buy it if you decide to try selling it. Some of the rebuilders may have donor original closed impellers they could install as part of their rebuild process. OR.....someone here with some "inventory" may have a less desirable PN Olds water pump with a good donor impeller.

Nice used rebuildable cores w/the original impeller seem to sell for $100-200. You could always try discounting yours a bit and see what happens.

The original closed impeller will have an approx. 4-13/16" outside diameter.

Finally, a place like FlowKooler may be able to rebuild it using one of the closed impellers they manufacture (or maybe they sell the impeller on its own).
