Vortec 8100 swap, heater supply line options

I have the engine and currently planning out the accessory brackets and hose routing. This engine has a crossover pipe that connects the front of the heads together, houses the thermostat, bypass to the pump, and the heater supply take off. This crossover pipe is a gigantic piece of cast iron, which I will be replacing with a custom pipe. I'd like to remove the heater supply line from it and connect it somewhere else. In an effort to demonstrate my ignorance, is there any reason why I can't connect it to the passenger side of the block somewhere?

First, what are you putting it in? What are you using for a radiator? My suggestion would be to use a Chevelle style radiator with the return fitting on it to simplify things.

Thanks Randy, I failed to mention the important details. This is going in a 71 Cutlass. I bought the car with a Chevelle radiator already (hooked up to the current 455) with the heater return line into the radiator.
