Shifter Hole location for 4L60E swap
Question regarding shifter hole location when doing LS Swap. Car is 1971 442 with existing hole for stock floor shifter cable. Planning on using 4L60E for the swap. I have the opportunity to re-locate the shifter hole since we are doing floor repairs anyway. Do I need to relocate the hole for the shifter cable location? Will the stock shifter hole location works with the 4L60E transmission shifter cable? See photo

First, you need to ask will the 4l60e fit in the tunnel? There are a few members on here who have installed 4l80's without cutting the tunnel, but the bellhousing on the 4l60 is a bit different. When I installed my LS1/4l60e, I had to modify the tunnel quite a bit and it is still a tight fit. I used UMI engine mounts, a factory trans crossmember (moved back) and trans mount, and an F-body engine oil pan. With a different combination of mounts you might be able to put the 4l60 in with no tunnel modification, but you will want to test fit it before worrying about the shifter hole.
