57 olds 98 Speaker
Hi everyone, just had another few questions on my 98 holiday coupe.
1. Where is the front speaker supposed to go. I know the back one, but not sure of where the orriginal went in the front. Also does anyone have a picture of the back dash, when I got the car there was nothing left of it and I was courious of how it looked, just little holes to let the sound throught. Also is there ant trim that is supposed to be under the back window or does the pad just cover there.

Front Speaker
I assume your radio has the extended power unit, if so, the speaker is mounted on the back side of the radio in "a sperate what looks to be a cardboard(mechanical paper) tray". The tray is "U" bent with with screw attachments and suspended under the dash. Both ends of the cardboard tray are open on each side, allowing the sound to come out.
Hope this helps.

I thought the front speaker went in the center of the dash. My 1964 98 had an odd sized front speakers in the center of the dash. I had to go to a specialty sound store and get a bracket that allowed me to mount two smaller speakers into the original hole. I didn't want to pay an arm and a leg for a specialty speaker to fit the original hole.
front speaker
Yes , it is in the center of the dash but hangs from the dash board in that cardboard "U" shaped hanger. The speaker broadcast's to the center of the "U" and the sound is stopped at the other side of the solid hanger, facing the speaker, allowing the sound to excape to the open side's.

okay that makes sense, since the top of the dash is solid, I'm not sure if I will be able to find the Cardboard holder, but thanks for the info. Do you know if the bottom of the back window has a finishing strip or if the dash pad was the finish.
I do not know about the back window... My rear speaker in on the deck lid.
I have to make a new "paper holder for the front speaker. I will make 2, and give you one.
It will not be the black tar paper ,, but a heavy duty grade bthat will have to be painted.
