Huh?
7040___ = 1970 issue;
yes, for some reason 40=70. Like buying paper towels- "12=18!"
7041___ = 1971 issue, etc.
The last three vary a lot year to year, but 25X (25_ or two-five-whatever) pretty much means Oldsmobile.
Prior to 1970 it was sort of like
250 = common SB
251 = pretty much all RWD BB's
252 = Toronado, BB FWD
253 = BB with Manual Trans.... sort of, some years.
254 = BB with OAI [W30] single 4-bbl, after they started this in '68
255 = SB with OAI [W31] - and/or possibly some '68 H/O's?? Hella rare.
For 1970 the used more numbers and differentiated between AT and MT for the W30 cars.
I find this among the carb info I have
App - Carb #
350 7040250
455 7040251 *[RWD Big Cars]
455 Toro 7040252 *
350 W-31 7040255 *
455 "442" MT 7040253 *
455 W-30 M.T. 7040256 *
455 W-33, 442 A.T. 7040257
455 W-30 A.T. 7040258
Asserting that your basic 1070 442 Auto Trans car would use 7040.257, as stated above. Being as that is elusive, you may settle for a
7040.251 - any Big Car would have this. Close enough. Proper fittings. Change jets to the exact specs for '0257 if that worries you. If your engine is not stick, then stock jets may not be optimal anyhow.
Any similar year BB QJet should also be fine.
7041.251, 7042.251, etc.
The dot or decimal was added here just to make reading the numbers easier- does not appear on a carb nor in the usual listings of numbers.
I have so many 7043.251's I would sell one for cheeeeep. Not sure why the 1973 units are so plentiful. Better yet: brand new rebuild in the Delco box $180

Almost perfect.
1970 core to work on $300 buys it now
