My father's Oldsmobile

I have been here before (priests442)... saucer eyes... endless sleepless nights of searching... no wherewithal to do anything...

This shall be the triumphant return! I will post, update, and enjoy... it is all for Dad. RIP.

His presence is clear to all who now associate with the automobile.... he loved that car in spite of the fact that he would never sit in it after June 16, 1975. Forced to dream about it until his passing on Halloween 2017. Although I am so sorry for not getting it done sooner Dad, I know you watch with pride as we get her back on the road.

I love and miss you so much. Time to make up for lost time.

I Love the entire story. Hopefully everyone else learns it too. That picture of your Grandpa is beyond cool. Back in the day if you had an Oldsmobile you were something. I hate to not know but is that a 54? Factory black car? Coolest picture ever.

Should have trusted my gut. 53-57 Oldsmobiles are on my always all-timer lists. Factory black car in 57 is a statement. Love it.

My Grandpa was a Chrysler guy. 53 Crown Imperial with a Hemi. Loved that car as a kid. He also owned a 62 300 with a 413 4 barrel. He was awesome. Born in 1896.

Everett returned from the war and sat in his uncle's garage for years learning the trade. He repaired cars in the garage behind his house (the house next to the one I grew up in btw) until the 60s when he bought an old manufacturing facility and turned it into a body shop. Dad wanted to play football; grandpa wanted him in the garage. Dad was a better mechanic. Grandpa was so well respected. When I was 10/12, I was constantly checking in overflow work from area dealerships... I am pretty sure he did many of Chesrown's caddies for several years. He was burly and boisterous. The olds was gone long before I came. Dad was maybe 8/10. Sad that this one didn't remain in our possession... there was also a 70s Delta 88 vert that was sold when they moved for the last time that makes me sad now.

NOTE: Grandpa owned a lot of cars... many were black on black. In 1986, he bought two Cadillacs from Dave Chesrown. An Eldorado for grandma and a DeVille for himself. Both black on black. The Delta was black on black car.
