Mr. Jones Resurrected - A Found 1969 Cutlass S W-31
Some of you may have seen already, or follow along on our YouTube Channel “The Auto Refinery”.
I decided to document this rebuild as well as many other projects we have going on and I’m sure if you’re an Oldsmobile fan, you’ll enjoy watching along. I’ll try to share as many pictures and info as I can while going along with this build. Luckily my brother plays a HUGE roll in helping me put this car back together and one of my main reasons to share his talent and skill to reintroduce a basically standard parts car back to its prior life as a street machine. Enjoy!
1st day home
Quick spray to see what paint is left…repainted at some time in the 80s original color.
Interior pretty much destroyed from years of sitting with no glass in the car.
Original selling dealership- Walter Chev-Olds Camden, NY
Rot
More rot
No floors left
Rough but, I have a vision
Trailered to my brothers in New York Sept of 2022
Unloaded for now @theautorefinery
Reunited with family 2 of 569 W-31s together again
W-machines
Luckily a matching number motor still sitting in there.

Definitely a cool car new. I am glad to see you bring it back. I am from Colorado. I feel for you coastal people dealing with that deep rust like that. No thank you. Like I said. Good for people like you bringing that car back. 👍
What are your plans? Factory colors etc? Do you have any under hood pictures?

Yes, the rust is tough for sure. Luckily I don’t deal with much here in GA but my brother is up in Ny where this car originally was sold out of but spent some of its life in California at a naval base as well as Kentucky and ultimately to GA. I plan on posting many more pictures. I have lots of under the hood but also our channel has in depth videos pulling it apart. My plan is to completely restore the running gear and the interior, fix the rot issues and make it a solid driver leaving the weathered paint in the condition it’s in, I will however when we’re done buff the whole car and it will have new glass. You will see some of the metal work exposed as I like the rougher look instead of a shiny new paint job.

Both W cars inside, Mr Jones ready for tear down
Hood removal
What’s left of the floors
Floors cut out
Huge door dent
Popped out, needs a little bit more Paintless dent finesse. We’ll get there.
Top end of motor disassembled for Engine Exposed video
Motor coming out to go on stand for time being
We talk about the motor being rebuilt at some point in the “Engine Exposed” video
W-31 engine bay, note the scoop holes and washer bottle on pass side and other W car clues
Motor reassembled on stand
Front clip disassembly
Just the shell is left
Stored in parts trailer for now
Cool shot of the shop at night
Body coming off frame, make more room without frame in garage
Installed hoist in the ceiling to lift the shell up and down when needed to do much needed metal work.

Awesome! Thanks for following along, we've got a long way to go and hope to keep everyone in tune and engaged throughout. I figured I would at least try to put together a photo timeline here of the process and keep people updated.

Totally love the youtube channel and I have been a subscriber since early on. Your brother has mad skills! Fun to watch someone take on a project I could never do . Totally loved the LeMans in a recent episode . I was a Pontiac man for many many years and still love them. Perfect show to unwind to while having a cold one . Show is edited and narrated very professional!!

[QUOTE=BradleyScott;1521225]That would basically destroy the inherent value of it being a W car.. The only reason it's getting saved is because it's of W status .
As to value, the Gold standard is an original paint numbers matching car with pedigree. It's a sliding scale from that point as to a cars value. It's great that the car is being saved as there are so few 69 W 31 cars out there.

Amen. True not fake W cars that actually get real love is awesome. Seeing the old scoops and the brackets is Oldsmobile car ****. Seeing all these fake cars getting sold for stupid money crushes the hobby for me. That's just me though. The proof in this cars' details makes it worth saving to me. Good for you everyone that saves true cars instead of creating a volo err... fake car.

thanks for checking in both places! Yes, I think my brother Steve replied to you, I’m trying to get us on all platforms and try to share pictures that we don’t share in our videos for a more behind the scenes look maybe. We appreciate you following along!

maybe so in the event it was just a cutlass or maybe a T-bird. I just like the idea of the impossible accomplished especially for a fairly rare car that has a great story and something I’ve wanted to own my entire life. I’m not so much into the shiny new paint heavily restored cars…I like to save what’s still there and make the car safe again to drive and enjoy. Watch further for final outcome, you won’t be disappointed!
