Bringing Frances back to stock

Here are some pics of my 1970 442, which I am bringing back to stock (the best I can within a budget). I have owned the car since 1992. Over seven or so years, I restored the car. I added bolt-on speed parts such as Edelbrock intake, Holley carb. and Hooker headers. I put a 3.90 gear in the rear and ran at the track on slicks (13.72) and street tires (13.44). Then, I got busy with other things and the car sat. I am in the process of re-restoring the car, primarily in the engine compartment. I will start with pics of the engine being pulled, re-sealed and painted. I hope you enjoy them.
Mick

Bringing Frances back to stock-more pics

More photos...I sent the differential out to have the 3.23 gear set re-installed. (Hey, the speedometer will be close!) I installed an Inline Tube exhaust (still working on fitment). Coming along, though.

Please tell me that's not Teflon Tape on your fuel line at the carb.

Obviously not an ILT fuel line- because it FITS. Heh.

It is. Bad idea to use tape there?

Blue paint on engine looks pretty correct. Where did you get the paint?

That's top notch work. Curious, how did you run faster on street tires than slicks, is that backwards?

There were many different factors; different tracks/weather and I switched driving duties with my friend. The street tires were pretty greasy, but my friend was able to run a decent time by managing the throttle. The slicks made it hook very strong. They were 15 inch and the car didn't leave as quickly. We were pretty inexperienced, but we had a lot of fun!

Bill Hirsch, Newark, NJ. I am pretty happy with it, although after using a couple different suppliers, I still haven't matched the paint on some of the original 1970 455 valve covers I have.

Looks great and the body color is awesome.

How does the Hirsch paint look different to you from your original valve covers? It looks a lot closer than many others I've seen.

The closest paint I ever had was the NAPA Martin Senour 7929 that is no longer available sniff, sniff.... I was thinking about either The Hirsch or Supercars paint.

Thank you. I remember the color of the original engines as being a slightly darker blue. This paint was sprayed on (although it brushes well). I do not want to put down the Hirsch product, I have used it several times. I am also using their high-temp exhaust manifold paint. I had far from ideal conditions and the paint originally leaned a bit more toward turquoise. As the other parts go on, the color looks better to me. Here are some pics of those valve covers. I had trouble capturing the color with the camera, but here they are for comparison:

Thanks for the pics. That original color is burned in my mind from hours looking at my Mom' s 71 Delta 88 when I was a kid and wanting to work on it so bad.

Thanks I will keep it in mind. Also you might have put it over a black base to help darken it a touch just depends on how transparent the blue was, but its close
Thanks
