the project my dad and i are working on is a 1983 cutlass calais coupe it has a 1968 olds 350 sb with #5 heads and a stock aluminum intake. headers true dual exhausts and a t350. we freshened up the block and got her running very badly she starts but idles at 2500-3000 even if we tap the gas to disengage the fast idle cam and then when she warms up she idles down but wont run without giving her gas we rebuilt the quadrajet but its showing leakage for the top air horn so we think it was warped so we ordered and edelbrock 9906 i think and now the adapter sets are on the way
am i correct in assuming our problem sounds like the carb?

i doubt that the carb. being/not being warped is the actual problem. it's likely the needle and seat are leaking. you didn't put the needle pull clip through 1 of the holes in the float, did you? did you check the needle and seat for proper sealing by turning the freshly rebuilt carb. upside-down and sucking on the inlet? other than that, a piece of debris is probably lodged between the needle and seat, try tapping the carb. near the needle and seat with a rubber hammer(while running) to dislodge any debris. otherwise, you're going to have to go back into the carb.

so the edelbrock came in and its all installed running pretty and we had an exhaust leak so we changed the headers now we are going to double check our timing what is a good base number without the vacuum advance and with the vacum advance?
