68 442 leaky-lue

It looks to be a deformed pan that caused the leak and ruined the clutch disc. I can see no evidence of the rear seal leaking but noticed a flat spot in the arch of the pan. The valve covers were barely bolted on and I found a broken motor mount as well as a crack in the exhaust manifold pass. side very front ear of the flange. What a grimeball !!

As the engine stand turns

Looks like I'll be in the market for some exhaust manifolds. Picked up new motor mounts and will get driveshaft and more nick nacks today. IF this is a 67 block in a 68 car should the motor be red if I want it to look period correct?

Update

The project continues. Got some paint on the old girl finally, along with the gaskets and a 160 deg. thermy. I ruined some cloths getting here but at least I'll know when I get a leak..... The ford red is the same color I need for my ford 8N tractor LOL. Got the driveshaft back from the shop with new slip yoke and U joints and picked up the motor mounts, carb base gasket, exhaust gaskets, etc.

Nice looking 442 Skutch!
Paint for for vintage International tractors is also a good match

Have any History on your car?

Loks like a darned clean engine to me, inside and out.

And that red is a dead ringer for the Olds big block red.

I don't have much history on it at all. It's a real 442 convert by the numbers with a 425 ci motor from 66 or 67 that replaced the original 400. It has an 83 Borg Warner T5 trans but other than that I can't verify much else. It's a good cruiser and you can see some of the body work is sketchy if you get close but it's still a ball to drive.
Hopefully I will get it back on the road by next week and cruise the rest of the season while I save up some cash and gather up some parts needed to make it appear closer to stock since the little T5 isn't gonna handle any more power than it all ready makes without scattering metal all over the street.

Smile update

It's back together and running. Went for an open exhaust no hood blast down the street and all seems well. No leaks so far and the clutch works just like it should. I'll cobble together the exhaust for now and save up some cash for the proper manifolds later. I'll follow up with some pics soon, man I hate doing exhaust work on jack stands.

Bronze is the correct color for a '68 442 engine but your red looks great and is correct for a '67 425.

I see a C headed '67 425, probably not Toro
I see a stripped or damaged nut on one of the rods- the 12-pt socket interface part. I would not use a nut like that. I see a 1972 "U" 4-bbl intake 410448.

Note that your intake's heater hose nipple must have a restriction of about 1/4" diameter in order to function correctly. The #5 RH exhaust manifold is entirely wrong for the car and engine. It's a smog era small block unit. It can be made to work, but why not just get new correctish W and Z manifolds and use the correct downpipes?

Thanks for the info, The clutch set me back a little financially but now I have all the info about the motor and trans and will save up cash to address the other issues this winter. I got the exhaust cobbled together today and will drive it this season and scope out the right manifolds before going to the muffler shop and getting decent exaust.

Just getting all those leaks stopped and losing that ugly blue paint was worth the time spent and since the oil ruined the last clutch I feel way better about it.

It really looks like the guy before the previous owner just threw it together for a quick flip. I'll address the issues and slowly correct them as money allows since times are kinda rough. It sure is nice driving it again and I still have some small issues to tend to along the way but I've learned to enjoy the process and challenges of old iron.
