I am building a 403 to go in a 79 trans am. I have the shop manual and while installing the timing chain I noticed the part that said "oil filler tube baffle" There was not one in when I took it apart which is why I was unaware of it and I was wondering what the baffle's main purpose was and is it necessary to have?

It’s to stop oil from slinging into the filler tube, and also to stop nuts, bolts, etc from going through the filler tube and into the engine.
