1964 442 Restoration

Well, here we go! The restoration has started in earnest. found this car in the Bronx, brought it home this past April. Purchased it from the original owner. This car had been at the same address for all of it's 46 years. While the car was rough, it was complete along with the protect-to-plate and other documentation.

I have been working on the interior and disassembling the car, but today we took the remaining body off of the frame and will remove the engine tomorrow to start the frame restoration.

While only being a member here for a short time, I have found everyone friendly and very helpful. I know I will be enlisting many of you guys for assistance as this project continues. My target date for completion is December of 2011, although I know you are really never finished with your car.

I currently have a 71 442, finished in 2005, 87 GN, 95 Ford PU. I've always been an OLDs guy, my first was a 60 Dynamic 88.

Here's some pics:

Just so you know............you can't start a restoration post with pictures (on a '64 442 no less) without following through the compete job (with pictures)!!!!!

AS to that shop,,,,, I feel you really lose the intimacy and attachment to your project in a big well equipped shop. True satisfaction could only come from a single bay, unheated garage with one light bulb , 2 outlets, cinder blocks, with no air source.

AKA, Welcome and PLEASE keep the pictures of this project coming.

Nice. Can I make a suggestion? Come over to the 64-65 Cutlass and 442 forum and post these pics in a build thread. We have a bunch of 65 guys and some 64 guys on the forum. Id like to document your resto on the board. Not many 64 442s around or getting restored. I dont think Ive ever seen a build up of a 64 442.

Well, it's not my garage, it's actually better

No, it's not my garage, but better, it's my friend's garage and I have have free access to it, not only to do the work, but to store the car and parts. Better yet, Jay (my friend) has decided to go into the restoration business along with his regular shop, so I will have plenty of help if I need it.
I will continue to update progress with pictures. Thanks for all of the kind comments.

Randy

A Red Post car, very nice!

Thanks for the comments. I have moved my restoration progress to another forum under vehicle line-up, 442. Yeah, let's stay in touch and share. A red, post car, man it doesn't get much better! Haven't been able to do much lately because it's been so darn cold. Hopefully this weather will break here soon in Southeastern, NC. Take care and Merry Christmas.

Thanks for the comment

Yes, found it in the Bronx, it was still at the same house since it was new. I moved the progress pics over to the forum Vehicle line-up: Cutlass, 442, Hurst, sub forum 442. Not sure why I did that, maybe I'll use both forums. Anyway, Merry Christmas and a very happy Oldsmobile New Year!
