wire inside OEM bucket seat bottom-'77 cutlass 442
working my way thru a redo of the seats on our project car. I have reupholstered several furniture pieces, and am used to the burlap/muslin/foam construction process. Of course, when I stripped down the original seat it wasn't burlap/muslin. It is parallel wires for support- no springs.
This car had a lower seat bun that had been injection formed around a wire- which is apparently placed to provide shape/support on the sides and front. It is midway thru the cushion when looking down at the seat. I have cut away part of the original foam and confirmed there were no clips/hog rings attached to this. So, since I can't inject my own foam over a wire, what is an acceptable work around? I can remove the original wire and try to duplicate it in my bun(I am making my own, not using a premade one). But since I find no other examples of this construction online, can I just reinforce the front edge of the bun somehow? like with canvas or webbing? that would retain the shape under pressure.
