ignition key and tumbler help

Unhappy ignition key and tumbler help

i have a 1972 oldsmobile cutlass s and the old igniton wont turn any more so i took off the steering wheel and the plate that locks the turn signals and the old ignition still wont come out....any other ideas

You must use a small thin screw driver or similar tool and insert it into the slot to release the lock cylinder.Hope this helps

You need a lock plate compressor tool to get the steering wheel lock plate off. They're cheap enough at Autozone, Advance etc, or they may rent you one. It pushes the lock plate in far enough to pry off the retainer clip and then allows controlled removal of the lock plate (it has a pretty strong spring behind it that can throw the lock plate across the room).

Once that's out of the way, you can pull the turn signal cam out of the way and get to the ignition lock cylinder. It's not a complex job, but you need the proper tools to do it and avoid injury.
