2023 H/OCA Nats Pics
Posting some pics from the 2023 H/OCA nationals in Gettysburg, PA...
40th Anniversary of the 1973 Hurst/Olds. I believe we had 9 & 1/2 1973's, probably not a larger gathering since assembly at Hurst Performance.....

I never warmed up to the 73's quarter window treatment, but damn those are some aggressive-looking cars!👍 Especially the black ones!
Especially like the first pic of the 73 shell with the 1970 in the background. How many cars showed up?

Sinister...😈
Almost enough to make Battle of Gettysburg dead rise and come check them out...
I had four ancestors fighting there in 1863 so Gettysburg is significant in my family. Just wondering if anyone hired a Battlefield guide to take them around the Battlefield and tell them the good stuff- the stuff you don't get on the bus tours.

I'm going to steal some of those for the newsletter. Thanks for the ads you sent me, btw.
I've downloaded about 140 pics off the H/OCA facebook page so far, and I took about 450, of which I kept about 190. Judy dubbed me photographer since Bruce Powelson was not there. I did the best I could with my phone.

I was scheduled to go to Gettysburg, but we backed out as we moved to SC last year and 8 trips from CT to SC hauling cars, house items, etc. in the trailer this past year just got to be too much. Instead we took the 79 H/O to the Georgia Moonshine Cruise, I'll post some photos of those asap under a different post. Linda Vaughn was there at that show on Friday & Saturday. I had her autograph my glove box lid, hat, etc.

Gene, Sorry missed you in Gettysburg, but hopefully see you in Dayton. I heard there were 2 white 79's that had planned to be there, yours must have been one of them. Georgia sounded like fun too!

The guide we had was fair. I was on the "old people short bus" as the big bus filled up. He was official, but he treated the battle very analytically, just on unit movements and tactics. He did say he had no idea why Lee didn't leave after the second night. Being a Lee myself, I'm trying to see if anyone notices that only Confederate statues will make it into the next issues of Thunder & Lightning.
The American Battlefield Trust bought the land Pickett's was on, to restore it back to 1863 appearance. Last I heard the restaurant is going to move a couple miles down US15 South, toward where the Boyd's Bears store was. Hope so. Good, consistent food.
Many Gettysburg residents and local government folks have told me that the CSA monuments and history are what brings in the tourism money. The whole Battlefield is a fascinating place, even more so if you're into history and can find the areas where your ancestors were fighting during that trying time.
One of many things that make Gettysburg a good place for a car show!

There used to be a server at General Pickett's Buffet who also worked as a guide-for-hire. We learned a lot from Robin.

So I was in Gettysburg before on a family vacation in 1971 or 1972 ish... Must have been the same time of year as one item I can recall is it was oppressively hot when I went before and not too different this time.
Back then I got a plastic sword and recall it had a 'ball tip' thingy on it.... did not see any swords for sale any longer in several shops, probably deemed not 'kid friendly' now.
Do remember climbing one of the observation towers back in the day. I did again this time, Longstreet observation tower, it did provide fantastic views of the surrounding area.

Supposedly July 1863 Gettysburg weather was some of the hottest on record. Think about soldiers out there fighting in wool uniforms.
If we get to Spring or Fall Carlisle we often stay in Gettysburg and spend some time on the Battlefield after supper. I've seen it hot in April and October too, as well as midsummer.
