The 06D means it was built in the fourth (D) week of June (06) of 1971. That's the extent of my ability to decode these. Others on here have the rest of the codes and will likely chime in soon.

Top color - E = sandalwood
Interior trim color - 948 = sandalwood bench front seat
33687 = Cutlass S Hardtop Coupe

ST 71 = style/model year = 1971

33687:
3 = GM division = Oldsmobile
36 = model series = Cutlass S (V-8)
87 = body type = hardtop coupe

R = assembly plant = Arlington TX

16954 BDY = assembly plant body number (internal plant use only)

TR 948 = trim number (interior color and front seat type) = desert gold interior with a split bench seat

61 E PNT:
61 = lower body color = sandalwood
E = upper body color = sandalwood vinyl top
PNT = paint

06D = time build code
06 = June
D = fourth week of that month
The build date of your car is the fourth week of June 1971, a late production car

150: I suspect this is an option code of which I do not have the break for it.

1971 Oldsmobile Cutlass 442 (27mb) This link is from the GM Heritage Center and has a ton of good info for '69 - '72 Oldsmobiles even though it says Cutlass and 442 it has some docs within that covers B & C bodies as well. With that being said look at page 240 and there is no desert gold for trim color in '71, 948 = sandalwood color interior trim. Hope this helps and not confuses.

http://www.gmheritagecenter.com/gm-h...tion-kits.html link to Heritage Center just click "show" next to Oldsmobile

Thanks for the heads-up, Scot. I have annotated my reference book accordingly!

Best Regards,

Thanks for clearing that up - I was beginning to wonder since I had two opinions about interior color. My interior is sandalwood - with a brown dash. Is that the norm for a sandalwood interior?

I really want to take the car back to stock color, but my wife loves it red - I am torn about what to do as I perform the little bit of bodywork this needs and planning on paint...

No problem at all, I'm glad to help. Yes a painted dash to match as close as possible to the upholstery color. Here is a link for paint codes and color chips for your original colors. Page 1 is exterior colors and page 2 is interior colors.

That will have to be answered by both of you. To each his/her own, built it so you'll enjoy it.
