What Brand of Water Pump?

The water pump on this motor (pic below) is starting to weep. I've replaced the lower hose so I am pretty sure it is the pump. What brand of pump do you all recommend? I see Cardone and Airtex available from Rock Auto, plus some others I am not familiar with. Which one moves the most fluid?

That's a good question. The factory pumps had a cast impeller with an integral disc while most reman pumps have a stamped impeller that is open (no disc). Also, the 70 and older pumps had a larger diameter hose fitting than the 71- up, so would the early move more coolant?

So I have no idea if there would be a difference in flow between different brand reman pumps.

I put a Milodon high volume aluminium pump on my 76 350 MIL-16285 with a robertshaw high flow tstat.
When looking down in the rad while purging the air locks, I didn't notice coolant flowing through the tubes any quicker than with my stock iron pump. I have since installed a 2 row 1" tube, Be Cool rad it may flow different than the OEM 3 row rad, but I don't know.
Good question indeed.

Or you could have this (possible OEM Delco) pump rebuilt. Nothing like OEM.

A-1 Cordone is an excellent remanufactuer, good quality control, never had an issue with any of their units.

Randy do you have a good higher end parts vendor in your area? NAPA, Federated, United etc...? Check them out they usually have the better non chinese junk parts. Keep the bad pump in a box vs turning it over for the core charge if its original or if that even matters to you.

If you don't have any cooling issues, get one spec'd for your accessory equipped model. Just double check your impeller nose length before painting. A1Cardone has been good for me also. As always, I suggest if you have not replaced your timing set, now would be a good time to do it as your just a few bolts away.

i just ordered the airtex for my 455, the cardone one did not state the WP snout length and i couldnt find it on their page ...the airtex stated 5.5" so they won the coin toss. they were about the same price.

my past experiences w cardone have been positive.
