Q-jet base gasket thickness?

Q-jet base gasket thickness?

My 1969 F-85, 350 4bbl has a base gasket leak. I have always run a thick gasket, about 1/4 inch, but when I went to replace it, I only found the thin gaskets (1/16th inch?) which didn't work. My internet searches return mostly the thin gasket. Which is the correct gasket?

There is no right or wrong gasket, however if the baseplate is warped then you have to use what works.

Cliffs High Performance uses thicker gaskets in their kits. You can also buy just the base gasket for $8 plus $5 shipping & handling, and it is .25 thick. Any of the thicker gaskets can help seal a carb with minor warping, and the thicker base gasket also help insulate from engine heat.

Stock intake or aftermarket? Many of the aftermarket intakes that are designed to accept both spread bore and square bore carbs can leak unless you use a spacer plate that seals to the intake.

I typically buy the thick gasket at the local NAPA store.

Or you can get the same Felpro 60335 gasket at Autozone for $2.99 and save almost $7 bucks over the NAPA price......
