Oil Filter Adapter Types

I have some original adapters and it looks like there are two types. Anyone know if there was a change/improvement made, or is there a BBO and SBO adapter?

My 1970 442 with the original 455 looks like the adapter on the right with the top two holes recessed, the larger exit hole and smaller chamber size.

If my memory serves me, the one on the left was from a 67 330, and the gold paint surely indicates SBO. So it's either an earlier design or SBO. I have an adapter from a 76 350, but it's on a motor and it's buried, so maybe some more people can chime in and save me from digging...lol

I also have an adapter from a 65 425. It looks like the one on the left in your pictures. You should check the date that is cast into these parts. It's located either under where the oil filter would screw in and/or on the outside of the filter as shown on the 425 adapter below.
My guess at this point is that they had one BBO/SBO oil filter adapter (except for Toro/Diesel which had it's own specific adapter) and the design changed over time. Curious to see what others find/say.

ok, yes nice catch on the date code My pics: Left one is 66 and Right one is 70 , and two different GM part numbers (which makes sense) ...looks like they made a change, possibly for clearance issue with the two bolts, and better oil flow? (exit hole / chamber change). Is one better than the other? Who knows? Probably not much of a difference I suspect.
