Help taking the trim off poat car door frames

I am working on getting the door frame trim off a 66 442 it is a post car and this trim seems to be squeezed onto the frame area when installed new. So how do i get it spread apart enough to get it off and not hurt it? Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
larry

That is a tough one
I think I ended up with mangled parts every time I tried that.
I think that the trims are also GLUED on, so maybe low level heat or adhesive solvent is required.

Larry use a 1x4 and tap it with a hammer it is just like removing the drip rail trim
just take your time and it won't damage the trim

I did this on a 65 with help from a body guy it was scary as heck

They are glued on we applied alittle heat as he worked them off with a wide putty tool I think it was 4" wide and tapped on it with a rubber mallet. Intell he could slide the putty tool down
On one door he had to hold the trim up with in one as he worked in another tool to slide down
The glue wasn't consistent from side to side one side had a ton the other very little

Good luck if you have a practice door I would try in that first

I believe the glue being mentioned is actually just an anti squeak compound that really gets hard after a while. I also use the little block of wood to tap them off with. Work on them from the inside edge of the moldings. I've removed several sets and I expect to spend an hour per door removing them without distortion.

Thank you all of you. Glue does not seem to be an issue. All the pieces seem to not be glued down. I will do my best and let you all know how it works out.

Thanks
Larry

Ok so I thought I would give you all an update. I used a 1/2" by 1/2" square dowel and a small hammer to tap the ones on the doors off. It worked very well with very little distortion to the trim. On the quarter windows, if you take off the window channel there is a screw in the channel area that once removed allows the rearward piece to just come right out. The one on the B pillar has clips that if you push it towards the rear with the window channel out it comes right off. The glue is only on the door parts and is so old it was of no issue at all. I will post a few pictures too. Thanks for everyones input.

Hey Larry I didn't think about this but there was a how to on the quart trim on bro442.com
If you haven't done the other door yet maybe do a nice write up with lots of pics and submit it to bro and see if he will add it in his how to section to help others out ?
