Did not expect this

I am rebuilding a 1972 rocket 350. Added an original 4 brl. intake manifold. Car has HEI distributor. Went back with a rodcester Quadrojet. Started to place the air breather on and it hits the distributor cap and will not let it sit flush. Any suggestions one what I could do to remedy this situation? Do they make a smaller dist cap or should I look for a "spacer" between carb and intake?
Thanks for any replys......

You can either modify the air cleaner, go with a 14" open element air cleaner, or put a carb to air cleaner spacer on there.

I'd just put a spacer on top of the carb between it and the air cleaner base. There's plenty of room under the hood to add one. They're easily available from places like Summit or Jeggs. I think something around 3/4" to 1" will do it. Another option would be to get an air cleaner from a '75 to around maybe '80 350/403 Olds motor. These still used the big 14" filter but they were off-set to the front to clear the HEI dist. While they'll fit, the snorkel is on the drivers side instead of the pass side so it won't look completely factory.

I used a spacer on my 72. Your will need to get some flex pipe to use from your exhaust manifold to your air cleaner.

Find a 1975 and up air cleaner housing. they are offset forward and have an indent in them to clear the HEI distributor.

Perfect. I tried to find pictures of one of these before I posted my response, but I was unable to find one online.
