climate control/heater defrost vent problem

SO I go to get my 75 ninety eight today because I can't get it aligned due to the steering box being junk. So the heat doesn't work anymore. Does not matter if on hot or cold it's cold. Then the lever above it that controls vent defrost or heater does not work either. It's stuck on heater/floor setting no mater where it's set. even if you turn it to off it's still on. Any ideas?

Hey, check to see if a vacuum line got knocked off of the "ball" (or broke) on the passenger's side fender well. That could easily cause the lack of selections. As for the temperature not getting hot, could it be low on coolant? If not, check to see that sliding the temperature cable from side to side is actually moving the control itself under the dash on the passenger's side. I just worked on a '75 for someone and his car needed a new temperature selector cable as his was bent and broken.

Yeah the guy was working under the hood on passenger side. I don't know exactly what I'm looking for though. And how on earth do you change headlight switch on this car? The heat was always hot including to right as I drove it in so I don't think it's coolant

John, the vacuum line was off the ball. Also, the heat works now - so the ball also controls heat and cold.

Ok great, so you're doing better already!

As for the headlight switch, it's no 10 minute job as it comes out through the back of the dash. You would need to remove the lower dash panel and work from there. Are you sure yours is bad?

Figured as much. No dash lights and they worked when you would turn the know just right from the dome light position to dash position. Last night went out for good after power for bulbs on oil and temp gauge lights loaded on as well. Dome light still works though.

Hmm ok, could be a bad switch then or could need some cleaning and maybe dielectric grease but still a bunch of work just to get to the switch.
