Carb help

I would like to get the daye correct carb for my 442. According to a previous post from a user, my trim code (12D) translated into the 4th week of December 1968 manufacture date. If this is accurate, can anyone advice which carb number(s) would be correct for my Oshawa built 1969 442 that was built in December of 68? Could it be a 7029263 carb with a late 68 build date? Or could it be a 7028263? Thanks in advance!

You didn't say what kind of trans you have( auto or stick) The chart in the service manual shows 7029251 for 400s & 455s, at or mt( this is the common bbo 4bbl used all the big blocks except Toro. The chart also shows 7029253 for 442 only with mt. The biggest difference between them is the size of the primary jets. the "251" uses #70 & the "253" uses #72s

First, NO Oldsmobile would have come with a "263" carb. That's a Pontiac carb, which we told you a month ago in this thread.

Second, every 1969 Olds 442 came with a carb number that started 7029xxx. The "9" indicates the model year, and every 1969 model year Olds came with a 1969 model year carb, period. As noted above, the correct carb for your car would have been either a 7029251 or a 7029253, depending on trans. I ASSUME this is not a W-30.

Third, the correct date code would fall in a range of one to three months prior to the build date of the car. There is no definitive single date, so any carb in that range COULD have been correct. Typically the date would be closer to one month before, but up to three months has been documented.

Thanks for the reply. I should have reviewed that before sending. I was wondering if it could be a 7028253 since the car was manufactured in December of 68. I have a manual transmission.

Don't confuse model year with calendar year. They are unrelated.

So does that mean that I could have had a 7028253 or 7029253? And what type of date code(s) should I search for?

I'm sorry, but how can this post from above not be clear?

I don't know if I'm adding confusion to the fire, but here is more info on the '69 Olds quadrajets. A lot of the 1969 Olds 7029251/7029253 quadrajets do not have a date code on them. They will simply have the carb number followed by a 2-letter broadcast code. The carbs I've seen like this have the full carb number on them; i.e., 7029251 or 7029253. There are also some '69 Olds quadrajets with date codes on them. The carbs I've seen with date codes don't include the full carb number; they will show "29251" or "29253" with the 2-letter broadcast code and a date code. From what I've seen, the abbreviated carb number quadrajets seem to be few and far between. Most have the full carb number.
