how can i tell what compression this engine was from the factory, and what horse power? and what is acceptable compression each cylinder should have on my 1962 engine. need to figure out if is ready for an overhall or can use it as is. i assume the higher compression the engine, the higher the acceptable compression.
the back of the block has the following numbers, 577476-41/8, CFD, and 364. it has the 'g' heads.
appreciate any info.

Just FYI, I' told my engine is a 1961 or 62, I have no idea what car it came out of. G21697 is stamped on a boss, in the middle of the pass head, the left side head is blank. Both heads have the identical the boss is just below the valve cover over the center exhaust port, just one is stamped the other is not.
FYI, My friend has a 64 jet star 1 and it has a letter and numbers, his starts with a 'j' , is on the left head which matches what his manual says, 10:50 compression engine. Obviously my engine has had the heads off and they got switched.

On the bottom of page 1-2 in the 1962 service manual is a chart that will show you want motor you have in the car. If there is no letter after the serial number it should be painted red and has a 10.25 : 1 compression ratio. If there is a suffix letter S, it is a Starfire head and has 10:50: 1 ratio.
