Source for interior door handle mechanism???????

Hi Guys,

Does anyone have a source for interior door handle relays for a 2-door 72 442/Cutlass convertible? This is the part that the interior door handle attaches to and allows the door to be opened from the inside.

This is a link to what I am talking about.
http://www.opgi.com/p/interior-trim/...4/CH26676.html

OPGI is the only place I could find them for a 72, but theirs doesn't allow for installation of the backing plate for the armrest. If you install the backing plate, the splined shaft is about 1/2" too short. Not good.

I couldn't find them at all at Fusicks or at Rock Auto. Year-One doesn't have the right year.

If any one knows where I can find a quality set of these, PLEASE let me know.

I am in dire need of the passenger side, but would prefer to just replace both. Thanks!!!!!!!!

The majority of repro parts wither don't fit or are poorly made.

Your best bet is to find a good used set, or NOS GM.

There are parts vendors here: Scott Winn, Brian Trick and others that can help you out.

I bought the set from OPG and they did fit and work well after opening up the mounting holes some!

Only later on did I find out they were for cars without the chrome base plate! WTF?? Why can't they make one with a slightly longer shaft??
Anyway, they do work with only one issue - the door handle clip does not snap into the groove. As a redneck fix, I took a small chunk of firm foam rubber and stuffed it between the handle and the outer armrest. Works great and it is invisible.

I would always recommend used or NOS, but good used ones are hard to find for the drivers side.

Oh - I edited your title to help broaden the views

Exactly, WTF? Luckily, my driver's side seems to be ok, the passenger side needs replacement though. It was jerry-rigged with a piece of wire by the former owner. Again, WTF?

Ideally, I would like to replace both though . . .
