I know it doesn't have a "401"...

351 or 400 would be the options.

My bad, ive seen multiple people get corrected by saying 350 when its a 351 and for some reason i thought 401 was what i read when i was doing some research and tried to spare myself, obviously to no avail haha

EDIT

in fact i think its technically a 402.1

Sorry, I got nothing. I've made it a point not to get to know Fords. The one token Ford I've owned in my life was a 1956 F-100 that leaked fluids it didn't even have. I improved it by adding a Delco alternator.

Would you trade an 85 toronado you paid 650 for? Lol

Its not a bad car, the toronado, but i dont really like that its fwd or how it handles. It just doesn't feel right to me. Maybe because ive gotten so used to driving the wagons haha

Nice, but the first thing I would do is get rid of those tires. They're right out of the Brady Bunch movie! What is it with today's generation. They take a nice car and crap it up with out of place wheels and tires!

Not exactly, i just prefer wagons and was asking if this would even be a worthy trade. I would absolutely love to get an olds wagon but none were around for awhile when i got my toronado and i was hoping to fix this up and perhaps use it as a bargaining chip to get another olds.

if you like it..i'd trade...its a fair trade..but you'll prob be stuck with it

theres a reason why he prob wants to trade, no one wants it..

i am a firm believer in theres a butt for every seat, and if it blows your skirt up, do it and enjoy it

Turning those blackwall out would be an improvement.

White letter tires, tach, and gauges? makes me think someone who grew up driving a 4 cylinder Honda/Toyota got ahold of an American V-8 and thought he had a hot-rod.

My dad bought a new one in 76, kind of a light blue metallic. Pretty sure he had the 460 in it.

know those cars ver, ver well. but take a pass. if the floors are bad, I guarantee you the bane of 1970's ford cars - the frame ends - are bad too and for that, there is no fix.

the 400 only came with a 2bbl carb and was a low rpm, hi torque substitute for the 385 engines (the 400 being part of the 335 family)

the guy selling it is wrong, aint a 400m, no such bird, the M (michigan casting center) was a 351 based on destroking and de-decking THIS block to replace the 351C.

shares a lot of design characteristics with the 385 series engines and you can make em bark, but you can do more so with something different for less $$.

the rust scares me the most.

the idea of the car, however, is a winner.

Sooner or later, the ignition module WILL fail, and it WILL leave you stranded.

Nothing in those floor pics I haven't seen and rebuilt before. All it takes is some heavy gauge sheet metal, a bead roller, shrinker/stretcher, small anvil shaped object, a grinder, a welder, a lot of patience and time. If you've got all of those, it's a great deal. If not .....

+1.

Funny thing - back when I was younger I was working at a junkyard and they got darned near the same car in (little old lady stripper version), in flawless condition, with about 30,000 miles on it.

Sent it to the demo derby.

When I was a kid working in my Dad's garage, there was actually a guy that would come around with some sort of setup that would turn any regular tire into a whitewall! It hooked onto the wheel hub and turned like a compass on paper and actually scraped off a circle of rubber on the sidewall of the tire. He would then "paint" the whitewall on the area that he had scraped off.

October is breast cancer awareness month. Buy it for $500, take it to Maaco and let them paint it playboy pink for free in turn for letting them put their name on the car, turn the tires and then scrape them and paint a pinkwall. Drive it at every charitable BCA event you can and at the end of the month auction it off. You'll get the notoriety, bring awareness more awareness to saving the tatas, and get a financial whip at the end. Then when the media asks you about it, you talk about your Oldsmobile.

Thanks for your input, if i happen to go take a look at it, would there be anything i should look at specificly? Per say if the frame didnt really look bad?

its just one of those things gathered over the years...if the floors are bad - and Im not saying they are not fixable - then it is likely something else is bad as well. ford frame ends in the cars has always been a joy kill. crawl under it, look, pound, lick etc. and any suspension mounting places as well.

on those old wagons the door bottoms and the sides down low of the wagon part get holy. in the pic they look good so this car seems to have hidden issues, rather than visible ones.
