Question Looking to make ram air.

Hi Im looking to make the "flapper lid" for a homemade ram air system. I want it to function just like the w-30 ram air. Any suggestions?

They do sell replacement flapper doors and lids if you were able to use a reproduction in your homemade design.

I think that fabricating a 70-72 ram air setup would be an enormous challenge to complete without looking, well..............Ho-made. The '68-69 style would be a lot easier to do and can be done in a fashion to at least look respectable to most car guys. Otherwise I'd be trying to save the cash, or sell some stuff to order the reproduction from Thornton. Just my humble opinion

Its going on a 1969 Cutlass S which has a 73 Delta 88 455ci. The hood is the 1970 442 Hood. Im not sure what I want to do. Im not as familiar with the 68 ram air as the 71-72 ram air. And where can I get the replacement flapper door?

Depending on the price, this very simplistic and reasonably respectable option seems like a very viable option with the '70 hood. I have not seen it before.

For just the flapper door,Supercars Unlimited sells just the flapper door.

If you want the entire lid that the flapper door fits into, take your pick of aftermarket suppliers, quite a few carry the whole lid.Fusick,Thornton,Supercars Unlimited and the list goes on.

The real question is, why do you want the flapper door? The only purpose of the door is to reduce engine noise at low speeds and to allow the Thermactor warm air system to heat the inlet for quicker engine warmup on cold days. Hot Rod magazine proved that simply leaving the flapper door out of the air cleaner adapter reduced quarter mile times. Simply fabricate a ring that the foam seal attaches to and you're done.

Ok wow, thanks sir. Eventually I would like to buy the reproduction but for now I may just seal the air cleaner to the hood. Thanks for the helpful comments everyone.
