Jay leno 66 442

I liked the video. Car sounds nice and looks good. I have watched a number of Jay Leno's shows. I think he could have done some research on 66 Olds Cutlass 442 instead of adlibbing. But who am I? Nice to have a 66 Olds Cutlass 442 on his show. Love those 66's.

I hear you. I appreciate that he qualified a lot of his comments in a way to let viewers know that he was not sure of the details, but there were a few cringe-worthy moments.
I have had similar feelings when I saw Chip Foose working on a 70 442 and talking about how most people don't realize that the "real W-30 stripes were vertical" on the front fenders (i.e. 68 W-36 stripes) and also when Dave Kindig once talked about putting "Oldsmobile-style portholes" on a front fender.
It just goes to show you how even very knowledgeable car guys cannot know everything about every brand and every model.

Thanks for posting this. I met Jay last year during the Tour d'Ellegance that was put on by the museum where this car came from. He really liked the H/O, it was great to talk with him about it.

Jay talked about the tach he had for the car but wasn't sure if he wanted to install it on the steering column. He pointed to a box in the trunk that could have been the one year only sidewinder tach?? Should have done his homework a little more. Could have a gold mine in that box!

I was a little surprised Jay didn't have his facts together on the Buick and the Olds. The Buick Gran Sport was a 401. I worked for a Buick dealer then the Gran Sport came out in 1965. GM still had the 400 cubic inch limit on displacement and advertised the engine as a 400 and claimed it was a 401 bored on the underside. The GS was a really nice car and all of them came on convertible frames. With the small valves on the nailhead engine they could never beat a well prepared 442 or GTO.
