I have no idea what an NRG hub is, but to remove the steering wheel, you remove the horn button (various ways for various years, models, and steering wheel options), twist the horn wire connector counterclockwise about a quarter of a turn while pushing in, to release it, remove the big nut that holds the wheel on, and use a steering wheel puller to pull it off.

He's going to try and do the NRG SRK-170 short hub to probably get the quick release setup I have.

I spoke with him over PM about it. Do what Eric suggests to get the old one off.

I suggest that you just loosen the nut at the top of the steering shaft, because if you slightly damage the threads while pulling the wheel, the nut will realign them so you will be able to get the new wheel secured. I set the nut so it is flush with the top of the column shaft, and have a small piece 1/8" brass that I put over the top of the shaft and nut and pull against this to prevent damage to the top of the shaft. About 10 years ago, I upgraded to a Snap-On Steering wheel puller that is great. This is one of those tools that you want to work well every time.

On this setup, is there any noticeable "play" when turning the steering wheel (either side to side or front to back)? Is where the steering wheel connects to the hub pretty solid?

I assume folks use this as a theft deterrent? Or maybe you like to wear the steering wheel around your neck with a gold chain, a la Flava Flav.

It's locked in place just as securely as a factory steering wheel is.

The steering column has a threaded rod on it that the hub goes on just like the factory steering wheel does.
It doesn't move at all side to side. The threads would have to be stripped and if they were stripped you have
bigger things to worry about. Doesn't move out and in either.

The one thing you do lose that I haven't found a solution for yet is your steering lock.
Not to say it can't be done, but this is still pretty new stuff and I had to figure this out on my own yet.

Yes, I purchased mine for theft deterrence.
If anyone's on foot looking to steal the car, it's not going to be worth trying with no steering wheel.
The quick release hub has ball bearings all around it......makes it harder to jam something into it and steer.

Lower left is the short hub. (Required)
Right side is the quick release 2 pieces. (Required)
Upper left is the lock (optional)
