If you’re not nut & bolt restoring engine, POR-15 makes an Olds gold engine paint that is pretty good looking and can be brushed on. Fairly solvent resistant as well.

Thanks! Yeah, I'm not pulling the motor, but I just want to clean it up.

This is POR-15 Oldsmobile Gold.

was not too happy with the brush result so I used a spray gun and love it!

It the prep work not the paint that gives results, you leave casting marks on it wont matter what paint you use, it will look terrible. in saying that yes there are better paints to use, and any spray job will look better than brush and roll, also any spray paint you get you can generally find in a quart to brush and roll with.

Dupli-color's rattle can engine enamel sprays pretty direct. With a little masking the majority of the engine could be sprayed. The rest of it you could let the propellant out of the can and open it up and pour it into a container to brush. You can let the propellant out by putting a tiny hole in the top of the can while upright and slowly let the pressure out.
