Which frame company built 68-72 Cutlass frames.
I just wondering about this. The other day I put a rust encapsulator on the frame. When the coated area on the frame turn black you can see some numbers. The numbers are very light when I tried to take a pic they didn't show up.
I couldn't make out the numbers. I thinking its either a model number or shipping number for the frame. I was wondering if anyone had any info on this.
The numbers are the pass side outboard front area. In front the a-arms. The numbers are upside down. Which makes me think the numbers had been put on by the frame company before shipping. It's common for frames to be shipped upside down in a stack.
One reason I'm wondering cause I worked for Dana for 11 years building F150 frames 1999-2010. Now the frame division is owned by another frame company. If Dana built the frame for my car I think it would kind of cool just to know.

I'm not an expert on the subject, but I would believe the frames were built by Fisher Body. I know that either Kurt or Joe P. will be able to answer more specifically. I have seen pictures of the frame numbers posted on this website. If memory serves me right, you have to have the body off for them to be visible.

In 1966-7, maybe earlier, Pontiac supplied A body frames also. The other supplier through 67 was A. O. Smith

for A bodies, 68-70, Smith and Parrish Pressed Steel

supplied A body frames. Smith and Parrish were the suppliers of big Olds frames 66-70. I didn't check other years; the factory chassis manual has the info in section 2.

Thanks everyone for the answers.
After looking at what I thought was numbers is just some kind of marks. More like a inspection mark showing that all welds are complete.
