Dual Gate Shift Lever Bracket
Ref. 1972 Cutlass, TH 400 automatic transmission, 455 engine. Would there be a difference in the shift lever bracket, between a column shifter and a dual gate shifter? Even with the adjustment, I cannot get it into first gear. All my other gears are lining up and working fine. The cable is 30 5/8" long overall.

I think the brackets are the same since the floor shift cars used the same backdrive linkage for the ignition lock feature. Are you using factory parts or aftermarket ones?
I found this info in an old post, so it sounds as if you have the correct cable:

After I rebuilt the trans on my car and was reconnecting the shifter, I had to really play around with the adjustments in order to get 1st and Park to line up correctly. A little off and I lost either 1st or Park, but everything in between lined up.

Okay, thank you. My neutral safety switch is on the steering column. I called Fusick's today and they told me the "Overall Length" on a Dual Gate Shifter Cable is 32"... OPGI said the "Eye to Eye" Length is 30 1/2".. So I guess I will keep messing with it until I get all gears to line up.
