disconnecting A/C

I am wondering what the advantages would be to doing away with the a/c on my 70 cutlass 350. The guy I bought the car from says that the a/c works but needs to be charged. It is a convertable and I don't plan on using the a/c. Can I leave everything under the hood and just take the belt off that goes to the compressor? Would there be any significant difference in power? Any advice would be great. Thanks

Just leave things alone, as the compressors not engaged anyway, with the just the outer clutch free wheeling. If it makes you feel any better, remove the belt and maybe save yourself a 1/2 hp. Bettin' the compressor shaft seal leaked all the R-12, and won't come on at all, due to the low pressure switch. Agree, being in MN with a vert, probably never need it anyway.

Don't be too quick to lose it, especially if you have a black interior, it gets hot in there! Vert owner in Minn..........
