Color of core support, top plate, air cleaner base...

I have been looking for information on what % of gloss the core support, radiator top plate, and air cleaner base should be on a 70 442. I see many places where someone will say one thing and someone else will say another. Is there any factory documents for the correct color. I took an original paint air cleaner base and polished it up real good and it looks to be 100% gloss but i am not sure that is correct.

When I took the headlight buckets out of my car they were more glossy than the core support and I know all that was original paint. I don't have to have it perfect but if I am painting it anyway I would like to have it close. Just not sure there is factory documents on this.

That is one of the treads I had looked at. I know some of the information is not correct. I have many original paint radiator top plates for 70-72 and not one of them are a differant shade than the core supports. I know they would have faded over the years but there would still be a noticable difference I would think. None of the top plates are as glossy as a couple air cleaner bases I have. I was hoping there would be factory documents on this.

Eric,
There are 4 or 5 different blacks that are used on a 70 442/W30,from the frame & chassis,to the engine compartment. The non-AC heater box is glossier than the firewall too.I think you have AC though. The air cleaner base is more of a semi-gloss.

Definitely a very debated, confusing subject. Ask one guy, get one answer. Ask another guy, get yet a different answer. I doubt its 100% gloss, but maybe on the order of 80% give or take. It would not be the same sheen as the radiator tanks, nor the firewall for that matter.

i painted the radiator top plate with the same brand low gloss black paint a couple weeks ago. it appears MUCH more shiny / glossy than the core support
