Best Vinyl Top Care Product???

Hi all,

My 72 88 has a black vinyl top, pretty sure it's been replaced. Anyway, non of my past cars have ever had a vinyl roof. Wondering what's the best product for taking care of it??? Keeping it clean, UV protected from sun, etc.

Any thoughts????

Thanks,
Kensey

Have had good results with 303 Aerospace Protectant on vinyl; but, haven't used it specifically on a vinyl top.

Good luck!!!

A friend of mine, who is very particular, swears by Harley Davidson Conditioner or Rejuvenator (or something like that) for black vinyl tops.

I would NOT recommend that as it's not made for canvas.

Thanks. Does anyone use anything on their convertible top, besides just washing it? My top is new, and still beads up when wet, but that will wear off eventually.

Most 50s-60s American convertible tops are vinyl, so whatever works on a VT should work on a convertible top. Canvas would be absolutely incorrect for those year cars.

GM's own Preservatone was the best thing I ever found for a vinyl roof cover but doubt you'd ever find any now. A company called KOALA made a VT dressing that was the closest thing to Preservatone I'd found. Hard, dry finish that was easily scrubbed off when needed. None of this wet mess that never fully dried and ran streaks down the car when it rained.

I had my top done a few years ago and I asked the owner who installed my top and he told me to put nothing on it. No Armour All, Mothers, Meguiars, etc.

We really need to determine if your top is canvas or vinyl. Here is a good article on top care.

If we're still talking about me, it's vinyl. However I think we're talking about the convertible guy now.

My convertible top is definitely canvas. Thanks for the replies. The car is garaged so I imagine it'll last a lot longer than I plan on keeping the car.
