Cool save Ted.
Hey - if this is still an original car please look at the buckets and let me know if it has headrests? I have a theory I'm testing. You already know the breakdown on the VIN and cowl, right?

....just not too sure of the trim codes...

This car is original..and yes it has headrests.
The only item that is not orig is the air cleaner...it is a dual snorkel that I found in the trunk.
How many verts were made in 70...noticed the door tag ...300451....seemed low for a late March build on the 70 model?

Good work Ted!

It even has the infamous Z on the data plate. It sounds like the convertible I had years ago, but its build date was 11/69.

It sure is...BUT ....it is all there
Again, one of these cars that somebody years ago just walked away from.
Adam, friend of a friend type of deals.
As soon as I hear about them I go and see the car.

Mike, refresh my memory on the Z code.....I remember the discussion but cannot find the thread.......

The Z that is right in front of the trim code. No one seems to know for sure what it means, though there are several cars that have it.

If I remember correctly, based on a different year's build sheet, some think it means the car was destined for Canada. I am of the opinion that it doesn't mean this, as my 4 door has the Z and it never was, nor intended to be, in Canada. It just has something to do with the interior because on the Broadcast card the Z is in the interior section.

No matter, you have quite the gem there. A convertible with power windows is the way to go. Who wants to stretch across the car and crank down windows?

The reason I asked about the headrests is I found a Z code on the Camaro forums where the Z was for bucket seats without headrests. Not in this case it appears.

Ted you are certainly on a roll! Good job! And as Eric said we gotta have the pics. I came across a really nice 1971 Vert original looking car last week myself. I made them an offer but this looks like one of those "I am going to fix it some day deals". I plan on a once a month drive by just to stay in touch

Come on Ted you can do it. A little touching up here and there and you could be cruising. If you do decide to start selling pieces I would have some interest in the air cleaner and possibly the wiring harness.

Yikes! I agree that's too far gone. Is the frame also in that condition? I'm surprised you haven't taken out the PW and started installing them on one of the other cars. I'm sooo torn on whether to consider changing my column shift to an A51 car setup.

Make a cosmetic/driver resto and save it! Also, I want to see pictures in "as found" condition, before the coon crap came off. It's fun to see what you started with.

The firewall stampings are clearly visible in the firewall and the top frame is in good shape.....uh oh, ted maybe changing his mind

I picked up an X33 69 Z28 once, by the time I got it on the trailer, the frontend was separated and the rear towers had given up. Basically had three pieces loaded. Needless to say, the Cowl tag found a new home, bout all there was left. Imagine how special that little 307 equipped car felt when it got promoted to a Z. Who knows what you'll come up with for this gal? Shoot, take her out to dinner. Bring her flowers. Who knows, might turn I to a long term relationship. Keep us posted.

Placing a data plate from one car to another is altering the identity of the car.

What do you do with dynacorn bodies? Crazy thing about the f body being a unibody all you got is the half frames and the rearend. Do you ceremoniously melt the tag and act like it was never born or find a body to keep it on the road?

Maybe you don't put a data plate on a Dynacorn?

I just don't get people switching tags - it's bad juju.

I can respect that. The car was in a cow pasture for years, I literally had to cut three trees that were growing through it. It was rusted to the point of falling apart. Rebuilt front and rear end, same subframe different metal.

Ted, that's the hood for a 70, not a 71 or 72. Note the position of the hood louvers. Here's what a 1971/72 Cutlass, Cutlass S hood looks like:
