'70 Cutlass Sport Mirror help

Restoring a '70 Cutlass convertible. Bought new sports mirrors.

The access to the studs at the bottom of ther mirrows inside the doors is very limited.

Access is so tight that I can bearly get my fingers on the bottoms of the bolts and don't see how I can put on washers and nuts and then tighten them up.

Attached is a picture of the mirrors that I bought from OPGI.

Any help on how is the best way to install the mirrors is appreciated.

thanks,

Pat

Did you car have sport mirrors, before? If so, the doors have slotted holes, so you can put the nuts and washers on, put them in the large part of the hole, and slide them back, then tighten the nuts. Not to bad of a job.

The driver side does have holes about 1/2 inch in diameter and a small slot. The passanger side did not have any holes so I drilled holes to match the mirror from a templete I found on Classicoldsmobile.com.

When I bought the car the mirrows had already been removed from the car.

Even with the holes and slots on the driver side, access is very limited. Not sure how to get a wrench on the nuts to tighten up the mirrows.

Any suggestions is appreciated.

thanks,

Pat

Exclamation

DO NOT INSTALL WITHOUT THE REINFORCEMENT PLATES.

This is critical to protect your door sheet metal if you bump the mirror.

Sold by many Olds vendors like Fusick.

Please explain. I have never seen reinforcement plates for 70 sport mirrors. I checked Fusick's web site and they do not list them
