1969 Buick GS California Post car Rallye wheel question

I found this gem in a yard today & have never seen these wheels. They are 14" & take a trim ring. All 5 of them are there & I might go back for them if they are valuable.
Also scored a bunch of parts off this post car & will be putting them in the for sale section soon.

I've never seen Buick wheels like that. I wonder if they're the standard Buick rally that someone put trim rings on? The center caps remind me of the full sized cars, they're much larger than the 70-72 Buick rallys. If the price it right, it might be worth picking up. Have you ever been on the site called V8 Buick.com ? If you keep running into buick stuff you might want to establish yourself over there.

I grew up riding in one of those as a kid - ours was a lighter shade of gold though. I love the grilles and hoods on those '69s (FYI - the grille is worth $$ by the way if it's not broken) If the GS California quarter emblems and the popup GS trunk lock are in decent shape, please grab them and I'll buy them from you as garage art. Thanks!

John,
Thanks for the input. I'm sure they are buick wheels with original trim rings. A couple members on the buick site said they have had some like that. I had never seen wheels like these either. The "spokes" are painted silver or gray not chrome like most others I've seen. & the trim rings are like a heavy stainless steel?? I'll go back & grab them most likely. I am a member on that buick v8 site & the parts are on there also.

Keegan,
Good choice!

Terry,
I was not the first to pick the car & some of the goodies were already gone! Didn't have the courtesy to wait for me!
Column & sport wheel were gone, I found the horn ring on the floor, all emblems were gone, radio was gone, hood was gone & front seat also.

Ted,
They are def. Buick wheels but they are for drum brakes. I've found out that some '68-'69 Buicks did come with these wheels. I've never seen them before.

Grab the vinyl top moldings as the are sought after. Those were also on 70 Skylarks, they were painted silver with black accents. The trim ring style is exclusive to those wheels not shared with anything else as far as I know.

Those wheels came standard as a rally wheel before the chrome versions came along. I believe they were late 68 through early 70. My Dad had an early build September 69 1970 Buick GS 455 w/55K and it came with all 5 of these wheels dated the same and coded correctly per the 2 build sheets I found in the top section of the rear seat. They do fit disc brakes because this 70 had factory power disc brakes and they fit fine. The new owner has since restored the car and it still has these wheels on it. They are relatively rare and worth buying especially if they have all the centers in decent shape as those are harder to find than the wheels and are also correct for the 70 14" and 15 chrome rally wheels. The beauty rings are also specific only to these wheels and are harder to find than the centers as the centers are repopped but the rings are not.

I just looked at your pictures again. That bias belted spare looks like its been in the trunk a while!

I just realized its a post car. If Buick post cars are as hard to come by as Oldsmobiles you might try to get the aluminum trim that goes around the door and rear side windows. Plus the interior post covers. Over the years I've seen several requests for these parts on Cutlass/442's and not many people replied with the parts.

There's a lot of interesting iron in the background too

I had a set & I'm not sure where they came from, but they are factory Buick & typical of what you'd find on a "cheap" '68-'69 GS California post 340/350.

'67s "cheap a-body Buicks" used a Chevy rally wheel & '70 used this rarely seen wheel - when chrome was too much money. & YES, that looks like an original 7.75-14 UNIROYAL in the trunk!!
