Part Number for glove box light switch?

The name of the thread says it all. I recently installed an aftermarket stereo in my Olds (pics to come) and when removing the glove box light switch it deteriorated. Here is the original switch:

I tried to get some parts from my local O'Reillys. None of them worked. They got me an overhead light door switch, P/N DS240. It was close but had a rubber cover on the plunger of the switch. They then got another switch, P/N 1S1044. This one was closer. It didn't have the rubber cover but the spring in the plunger was way too strong. Again, it was an overhead light door switch.

Does anyone have a P/N for this glove box light switch? Or, doe's anyone know of an aftermarket part that I can use to replace the switch? Right now I am cruising around with the glove box open and two wires hanging out. Any help is appreciated.

I believe this is for a '71 98, right?

If so, it should be Part #6258295, which is also listed as a door jamb switch and alarm switch, and which, unfortunately, was used on Corvettes.

Best I could find was this one, for $12, plus another $9 shipping.

Looks like they come around for not-insane prices on eBay every now and then, too, but some people have them listed for crazy prices, as well.

Good luck!

Yes sorry. I thought about putting this in my original post, but I was posting with my phone. Plus I told myself, "It's in your signature line." I guess for some reason it didn't put my signature in my original post since I was using my phone. Anyways...

Thanks for the information gents. I will get one stat!

Unfortunately, I bought another switch from O'Reillys with this part number and it didn't work. The part number crossed to S1001, an overhead door light switch for a Corvette. It was essentially the same part as the second one I tried, 1S1044 (it just had a different part number on the box). The threaded nut was the proper size to fit, there just wasn't enough mechanical movement of the plunger to fully close the glove box.

So, I am back to square one. Should I buy a switch with the #6258295 P/N online? If I do, it may be just like the switches I got at O'Reillys. Does anyone know of an aftermarket option? I am open to suggestions.

If the aftermarket switches aren't made correctly, a used or NOS switch should work.

You can find one in all fullsize from '69-up through the '70s, '70 Cutlass, and all models from '73 up through probably '76 or '77.
