My Oldsmobile Dynamic 88, 4dr, hardtop - FULL RENOVATION
Hi!
My name is Jacek and I am from Poland. My dad bought my Oldsmobile in 1989 in Poland. This car has been in Poland since 1968. Dad was the second owner. I got the car from him about 5 years ago. The whole history of this car is known. From buying in the US to the present day.
The times of communism were hard for this car. The car has been repaired and painted many times. There was no part, no internet (in Poland it appeared in homes around 2008).
About two years ago I decided to do a full restoration in a professional workshop.
I will be uploading photos and videos of the progress here.
I will also ask for help in getting some parts.
Please also visit my facebook page.

Welcome to Classicoldsmobile.com Jacek. I really enjoyed watching your video. Isn't it nice to have friends that are willing to help when you need it? It was really good to see five or six people working together to get a complex job done quickly and efficiently.

My name is Cris but everyone calls me Jacek.
I have been on the forum for several years but I have never had the courage to post with my car.
Remember that the video and photos I added are from two years ago. The car is now in a different form. The frame, box and the entire chassis are complete.
Currently, the body is being made.
First owner - Mr. John (Jan Cierpisz) Polish imigrant. I found his family in 2016/17.

Cris, there was some real cancer in that frame wasn't there? Wow, you have done a great job so far and I am so glad that you have decided to share this information about your car and how you are re-building it literally from the frame up. Good work! I so much enjoyed the photos of Mr. Jan Cierpisz and his family with the car, I reminded myself that he bought that car only about 18 years after the war when your country had so much destruction. I am truly encouraged by the resolve people can have to recover from hard times. Good thread here.

After the war, there was a huge crisis in Poland, Mr. Jan and his family returned to the country in 1968. In the USA since 1962.
As for my car - The car didn't travel around Poland for too long in 1968/89. The engine was damaged and the repair was very difficult.
It wasn't until my dad started the V8. He is a very good mechanic.
In the years 1990 - 2010 the car made about 1 million km on Polish roads.
The roads used to be very poor with us. The car did not have a garage, it stood in front of the house. Winter, summer - it rode all the time.
Road salt has done such damage to the frame.
Between 1968 - 1974 in Poland

Right on!! 👍 Welcome to Classic Olds. I am Polish decent also. We Poles are survivors. You getting it done is no surprise to me. I will be following your thread.
I do have to ask though. From here in America it is required to use duct tape. I don't see any?...🤔

Do you ask about modifications in the car before or after renovation?
Before renovation:
In Poland, it was not possible to buy parts for cars from the USA. There were individual stores (now there are a lot of them), but ordering anything was very difficult.
You had to count on help from someone in the USA (friend / family).
For example, the window on the driver's side was broken once. Finding the glass was a real challenge.
Before renovation:
Shock absorbers from WV LT
Headlights from the Polish Żuk car
Suspension components from Mercedes (the suspension bushings were original but in poor condition)
The rear lights had to have orange turn signals
On the sides were mounted turn signals from the Polish car Polonez
Air filter from the Polish STAR truck
STAR truck exhaust
Polish gas installation installed.
Polish oil filter
Most changes and repairs were made with the suspension.
The rear springs have lost their height. Metal sleeves had to be installed.
The brake hoses were of Polish production.
Engine
The pistons have been minimally reduced.
The sleeves were inserted into the cylinders
Polish rings
Polish shells
The camshaft has been regenerated
The shaft too
A lot of changes. Lots of silver tape, lots of plastic bands: D
Soon I will present you the whole story of my car. A friend will translate it from Polish into English. A really interesting story.
After the renovation, there will be no silver tape anywhere
Rear differential.
Polish bearings. After the original bearing was damaged, the axle was damaged.
A drain plug was installed in the rear cover.
Everything has been fixed.

Nice job repairing that frame.
Do they use salt on the roads in winter in Poland?

Thanks a lot for your support.
Is it expensive? Shipping and time are the most expensive. For example, if I have two bearing sizes to choose from, I buy two. You never know which ones will be good.
There are many good parts stores in the US, but there are also many bad ones.
Sometimes stores sell something they don't have.
Every such mistake when shopping is a waste of time. This is the hardest part.
I have met some great people over the internet (they are in the group here) who always help me. They helped with engine parts, they helped with the carburetor. They are really great.
As for the renovation of the car. My car was / is complete. All the parts I mentioned in it are typical parts that broke over time. Therefore, I did not have to search for many of them.
I can do many things myself. In Poland, we have great mechanics who can fix everything (in communism everything had to be repaired: D)
Unfortunately, the springs are not perfect. Their ends are narrow at the top and bottom. It should be narrow and wide. It should be wide at the top, put an insulator on it and put on / supported on the frame.
I bought these springs on rockauto - MOOG
