'85 Delta 88 dies when put in gear....

I inherited my grandmothers '85 Delta 88 Royale with 48k miles. I love it! However it hasn't been driven in about 5 years. I decided to tune it up a bit. I replaced the plugs and plug wires along with the battery. I bought dist cap, rotor button, air/fuel filter as well, but didn't install those items yet. I decided to stop there. Anyway, It took a while to get the car to where it would run and idle. Now it idles fine but as soon as I put my foot on the gas it goes dead. If I take it out of park and put it in reverse or drive it does the same thing. If I want to rev it up I have to tap the accelerator pedal several times quickly to tach it up. Thanks in advance for any ideas!
Dave

The rubber ring on the accelerator pump in the carburetor could have gone bad.

If it has 5 year old gas in it, the carb may be gummed.

Here is something to try, not sure if it will work for you or not...
With the air cleaner lid off, spray a little carb cleaner or starting fluid into the primaries at the SAME time you blip the throttle slightly by hand.
If it does not die, the carb needs work - most likely a rebuild.

Was the car garage kept?

Assuming you still have the computer-controlled Q-jet on the original 307, be aware that there is a very detailed adjustment procedure in the Chassis Service Manual. You must follow this procedure exactly to get the CCC system to work properly. Many people do not do this and end up cussing it out and throwing it away. When set up properly, it works just fine. Also be aware that there are about 500 miles of vacuum hose on that motor and any cracks, splits, or mis-connected hoses will cause problems.
